Capture barcode data using inexpensive portable scanners.

cs2000.jpg (10712 bytes)The perfect addition to:

  • Fixed asset tracking
  • Shipping & receiving
  • Inventory management
  • Event attendance
  • Equipment check-in/out
  • File & document tracking
  • Service delivery management

Designed for use with the Symbol CS-1504 keychain scanner and Symbol CS-2000 consumer pocket scanner.  These portable laser scanners can read barcodes at distances up to about 10 inches. The batteries provide power for about 5,000 scans, and the scanner can store from 150 to 300 records in memory, depending on barcode length. The CS1504 keychain scanner includes a time & date stamp function, making it easy to track when your assets were moved or used.  To transfer collected data to a host computer, simply plug the scanner into the USB/serial cable; the Mini Data Capture software retrieves the data, organizes it, and saves it to disk in just a few seconds.
The scanners can read standard retail codes (UPC/EAN/JAN), Code 128, Code 39, Coupon Code, Interleaved 2 of 5, and Discrete 2 of 5.
In many applications, barcodes will already be attached to the items to be recorded (retail items, for example). The Mini Data Capture System includes a set of
Code39 TrueType barcode fonts that can be used to create barcodes using any Windows word processor, database, or spreadsheet. Code 39 is a widely used code that includes letters and numbers.
The Mini Data Capture System can be a useful tool for tracking valuable assets, capturing field survey or scientific data, monitoring movement of sensitive documents, taking inventory, tracking attendance, and performing a wide range of other data collection chores.

Use barcodes to record the progress of orders through manufacturing, assembly, or other staged processes

  • Track status of orders
  • Arrival/completion times
  • Analyze productivity
  • Capture time data for costing
The WIP Data Capture System uses barcodes to collect real-time production data at multiple workstations. As jobs are received and processed at each station, the operator uses a barcode scanner to enter information about the job. The date, time, and workstation identification are captured automatically by the software; other data fields are defined by the system manager (job number and operation code, for example).
The data captured at the workstation is automatically stored on a central network database. From there, it can be used by other software packages, including order management and production scheduling systems, spreadsheets, databases, and productivity analysis tools. Data is stored in the popular Microsoft Access database format.  Microsoft Access is not required to run the WIP Data Capture Software.
The type of data captured and the appearance of the screens are centrally controlled by the system manager. Once the WIP Data Capture software is installed on the workstations, the system manager can change screen layouts without visiting each workstation. The system supports multiple screen layouts, which can be tailored to the needs of each department.
The workstation software is designed to work with any scanner equipped with a serial data interface.  Please contact us for assistance in choosing the right scanner.
The WIP Data Capture software includes a set of
Code 39 TrueType barcode fonts so that barcoded reports and labels can be printed in-house.
